Sml Movie Bowser Junior Goes to Disney World Splash Mountain
This attraction is scheduled to be closed temporarily from
Monday, January 10, 2022, to Thursday, February 10, 2022.
Description And Comments
Splash Mountain tells the story of Br'er Rabbit, who goes off in search of adventure and finds it . . . along with a hungry fox and bear. Steep slides and animatronics alternate with at least one special effect for each of the senses. The ride covers more than half a mile, splashing through swamps, caves, and bayous before climaxing in a five-story plunge and Br'er Rabbit's triumphant return home. More than 100 animatronic characters, including Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Bear, and Br'er Fox, regale riders with songs, including "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah."
Disney will close Splash Mountain at some point in the next couple of years to retheme the ride to the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog. No timeline has been announced.
Touring Tips
- This attraction offers Lightning Lane access via Genie+.
This happy, adventuresome ride is one of the Magic Kingdom's most popular attractions. Crowds build faster the second hour the park is open, and waits of more than 2 hours can be expected once the park fills on busy, warm days. Get in line no later than 10:30 a.m. during warmer months. Long lines will persist all day.
If you have only a day to see the Magic Kingdom and you're eligible for Early Theme Park Entry, ride Tron Lightcycle Power Run as soon as the park opens, then hotfoot it to Frontierland to ride Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. Wait until evening to experience Space Mountain, and until the last hour the park is open to get in line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. If you're not eligible for Early Theme Park Entry, start with Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain as soon as you're admitted into the park—crowds will not have peaked yet. Fit in Seven Dwarfs Mine Train during lunch, dinner, or any parades. Save Tron and Space Mountain for after dinner.
If you have two mornings, start with the Fantasyland and Frontierland attractions—Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Splash Mountain—on one day, and then do Tron Lightcycle Power Run and Space Mountain the next. Spreading your visits over two mornings eliminates a lot of walking.
If you ride in the front seat, you'll almost certainly get wet; riders elsewhere get at least splashed. Since you don't know which seat you'll be assigned, go prepared. On a cool day, carry a plastic garbage bag and tear holes in the bottom and sides to make a water-resistant (not waterproof) sack dress (tuck the bag under your bum). Or store a change of clothes, including footwear, in one of the park's rental lockers.
Leave your camera or phone with a nonriding member of your group, or wrap it in plastic. For any attraction where there's a distinct possibility of getting soaked, wear Tevas or some other type of waterproof sandal, and change back to regular shoes after the ride.
The scariest part of this adventure ride is the steep chute you see when standing in line, but the drop looks worse than it is. Despite reassurances, however, many children wig out when they see it. A mom from Grand Rapids, Michigan, recalls her kids' rather unique reaction:
We discovered after the fact that our children thought they would go under water after the drop and tried to hold their breath throughout the ride in preparation. They were really too preoccupied to enjoy the clever story.

Splash Mountain Wait Times
This chart shows you roughly how long you'll wait for Splash Mountain when you visit on a day with a given Magic Kingdom Crowd Level. The blue bars represent the average "peak" wait time (that is, how long the line will be at its busiest). The bottom and top black lines represent the range of peak wait times to expect (for you fellow nerds out there: it's the 5th percentile and 95th percentile of peak wait times). Please note that these are estimates, and for a better forecast for your travel dates, see Splash Mountain Wait Times.

This Idea Didn't Make a Splash
When Tony Baxter came up with the Splash Mountain idea back in 1983, he wanted to name the ride "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah River Run," tying it to the hit song from Song of the South. But then–Disney CEO Michael Eisner hated the name, preferring to keep the "mountain" theme going for Disney's thrill rides.
